ERIKA BROWN

Erika is our champion health outcomes analyst, facilitating our client's real world investigative needs in the areas of Respiratory, Endocrine and Neurology. Having worked in the social service sector, taught sex education in Boston public schools, and conducted public health research both domestically and internationally, Erika brings a unique health-focused set of experiences to dMetrics, helping strategize the company's public health initiatives. Erika holds a B.A in Community Health from Tufts University and while her academic interests lie primarily in analytics and epidemiology, she dedicates most of her free time to running and painting off-the-clock.

XAVIER CARRERAS PHD

Xavi is recognized as one of top scientists in the areas of natural language processing and machine learning. He received his doctorate from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and a postdoc from MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. In Xavier's academic role, he is a researcher at the Universtitat Politècnica de Catalunya. His interests include syntactic analysis, information extraction, and machine translation. Xavier serves as dMetrics' link to the academic world. Xavi participates in: XLike, the Pascal2 Network, FAUST, MOLTO, OpenMT-2, KNOW-2, is the 2011-2013 Secretary of SIGNLL, the ACL Special Interest Group on Natural Language Learning, Co-Chair and Area Chair for Syntax and Parsing of EACL 2012, and Program Commitee Member of ACL-2012. When he has time Xavi plays drums, sails boats, and upholds the Catalan cooking tradition.

WON HEE CHANG

Won Hee Chang sped through a career as a classical flutist and an opera singer in France to being a trend assassin in Regional Creative Strategy and PR at Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific, all before she was old enough to vote. When not running away from her doctorate and crossing the great Islamic republics on foot, Won has built successful strategies and raised funding for companies in high tech, finance, and politics. She is responsible for setting and implementing the company and product strategy both internally and externally, to rapidly expand dMetrics into the market. Her last role was as COO at Monocle Order, a venture-backed social retail startup. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Art History from the Gallatin School of Individual Study at NYU, and trains to become an instructor at Krav Maga Federation under Rhon Mizrachi.

JAMES CLARKE PHD

James is a widely published expert in statistical natural language processing and machine learning. James brings his knowledge of research, development and business to evaluate opportunities and guide the R&D direction at dMetrics. Prior to joining dMetrics he was a post-doctoral research associate at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he developed a large-scale natural language processing platform and worked on getting machines to understand the the world by reading text. James received the best paper award at the conference on Empirical Methods for Natural Language Processing (EMNLP) for his work on automatic summarization which formed a major part of his PhD thesis at the University of Edinburgh in 2008. James balances his technology life by traveling into the mountains to hike, take photographs and eat in small town diners.

STEPHEN DOOGAN

Stephen guides information strategy, product design and business development with healthcare organizations in the US, in addition to his homeland in the UK. Prior to dMetrics, Stephen co-founded WeAre.Us, one of healthcare's first social networking platforms for chronic disease management. Stephen was responsible for creating some of the industry's first interactions with social media through the development of its health-tracking and clinical trial recruitment platform which facilitated interventional and observational research across specialty disease areas. After completing a degree in Linguistics at the University of Leeds, Stephen performed clinical research and computational pharmacovigilance roles at Kitasato University, Tokyo and Hitachi, in addition to information architecture in the financial sector in London. Stephen is an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club and consumer tech.

STEFAN ISTRATE

Stefan is a visiting scientist at dMetrics with a strong background in natural language processing, machine learning, algorithms and data structures. Stefan holds a Master's degree from University of Cambridge and a Bachelor's degree from University of Bucharest, both in Computer Science. Prior to joining our team he worked as a software engineer at Facebook and as a research assistant at Politehnica University of Bucharest. At dMetrics Stefan is working on text normalization, developing models that will improve the performance of the relation extraction algorithms.

ZURAB KHUKHASHVILI PHD

Zurab leads the development of dMetrics' Data Aggregation framework. Prior to dMetrics, he worked for Motorola Israel for over 10 years as an expert, developer, and team leader. He specializes in TCP, IP Suite, and Mobile IP network protocols. In addition to having developed and patented network drivers with Motorola R&D Lab, Zurab also has extensive experience with small databases and business logic control components. Zurab graduated from Tel Aviv University with a degree in Computer Science and Mathemathics. His real relaxation is spending time with his wife and wonderful kids: Amit and Netta. He enjoys traveling, photography and eating Italian and Japanese cuisine.

GABRIELE MUSILLO PHD

Gabriele oversees core research efforts at dMetrics focusing on statistical natural language processing. He met the dMetrics research band while a visiting student at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, where he developed an array of data-driven models to process both the structure and the meaning of linguistic data. His research work has been published in the most highly regarded proceedings in the field. Gabriele holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Geneva where he also completed his undergraduate studies in logic and linguistics and was a postdoctoral research associate at FBK-irst prior to joining dMetrics. Besides research, he mostly enjoys spending time with his wife and being amused by their baby girl.

EDWARD NEMIROVSKY PHD

Edward oversees dMetrics' information mining and retrieval strategy. A mathematician and computer scientist with 40+ research publications, Edward has also been a recipient of the USSR State Prize (highest distinction given to scientists) for the creation of the first Eastern bloc system for predictive discovery of mineral deposits. The system exploited best-in-class machine learning frameworks to combine photo-visual satellite image analysis with on-the-ground geologist reports. Prior to joining dMetrics, Edward worked for the Tel Aviv office of Motorola.

PAUL NEMIROVSKY PHD

CO-FOUNDER AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Prior to starting dMetrics in 2009, Paul’s career included 15 academic publications in the fields of human-computer interaction and machine learning, 15+ years of managing development teams, and successful launch of many commercial and academic projects. Paul received his doctorate from MIT Media Lab. A professional jazz musician in his past life, his interactive work has been exhibited at Centre Pompidou, Decordova Museum, and many other venues around the world.

JOSH PEVNER

Having studied both Mathematics and Philosophy at MIT, Pevner brings a unique insight to exploring and interpreting the massive data sets generated by our Decision Engine, and to supporting others in understanding dMetrics' work.  As dMetrics' longest-serving employee, he has also contributed significantly to the core technology behind the Decision Engine, providing the necessary creativity to realize as product the developments of our research department.  In his off- hours, he promotes artistic education as a founding member of the Collaborative Electronic Mixed Media Institute (CEMMI), and volunteers his statistical skills for a number of non-profits.  His idea of a relaxing evening usually involves his loving partner Keira, a bottle of the Caol Isla, and any of the terrifying works of H.P. Lovecraft.

ARIADNA QUATTONI PHD

CO-FOUNDER AND CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

Ariadna is widely recognized as a leading scientist in the area of machine learning with applications to natural language processing and vision. Ariadna oversees the technical direction at dMetrics. She received her doctorate from the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

LILY JUE SHENG

Lily Jue Sheng is a visual artist and filmmaker who graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Her recent exhibitions range from multichannel video loops, traditional theater screenings, guerrilla style building projections, public installations, film festivals, performances, and more. Lily ensures reliable communication and organization within the day to day life at dMetrics. On an average week she is slaving away at the animation board, scavenging the internet for 16mm found footage, designing websites, or watching Netflix with her cats.  After six years of hopping around greater Boston, she now lives in Brooklyn, New York.

NICHOLAS NEGROPONTE

Nicholas is the founder and chairman of the One Laptop per Child non-profit association. He is also the founder, former director, and the Jerome B. Wiesner Professor of Media Technology at the MIT Media Laboratory, an interdisciplinary, multimillion dollar research center, focused on study and experimentation with future forms of human communication, entertainment, and education. A graduate of MIT, Negroponte was a pioneer in the field of computer-aided design, and has been a member of the MIT faculty since 1966. His best selling book, Being Digital, has been translated into more than 40 languages. In the private sector, Negroponte serves on the board of directors for Motorola, Inc. and has provided start-up funds for more than 40 companies, including Wired, Skype, Zagat, and... us.

DECLAN DOOGAN MD

Declan is Chief Medical Officer at Amarin Corporation, which in his five year tenure has seen its market capitalization grow from $20M to $1.6Bn. Dr. Doogan has over 30 years of drug development experience primarily with Pfizer, where his most recent post was as Senior Vice President and Head of Worldwide Development. A seasoned drug development executive and life sciences investor, Declan has helped raise over $100M in venture financing and has controlled budgets that have exceeded over $2Bn annually. Dr. Doogan holds visiting professorships at Harvard, Glasgow and Kitasato Universities and non- executive directorships with Spinifex (Australia) and Sosei Pharmaceuticals (Japan). Dr. Doogan received his medical degree from Glasgow University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine in the UK. He is also a visiting physician for The Haitian Health Foundation.

DAVID LEE MD PHD

David currently serves as Senior Strategic Adviser of Endo Pharmaceuticals, having been a founding executive of the company. Previous positions include Executive Vice President of Research & Development and Regulatory Affairs, and Chief Scientific Officer since April 2004. Dr. Lee held various positions at Solvay Pharmaceuticals, ranging from Head of Global Clinical Development Programs to his final position as Vice President of Research and Development. Dr. Lee also serves as Member of Advisory Board of Abeille Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Lee received his M.D. and Ph.D. Degrees from the University of London and specialized in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Her past experience includes working with Citizens Financial Group as the Executive Vice President of Human Resources for the Commercial Division. in addition to leadership positions with Xerox, Campbell Soup Company, Hercules/BetzDearborn and her own consulting company, Bolt-On Services, Inc. She is a member of the MIT Venture Mentoring Service and on the Board of the Greater Boston Food Bank.
